Men with prior record facing drug charges after chase, crash

A harrowing police chase in Ann Arbor has led to the arrest of two Michigan men, who have now been charged with a series of drug crimes. The two men, ages 25 and 26, are accused of bringing heroin into Washtenaw County. They are each facing several felony drug charges, for which they were arraigned on April 24.

Authorities say they tried to stop the defendants' vehicle near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Washington Street in Ann Arbor. That vehicle contained the two defendants facing drug charges, in addition to another man who is thought to have been involved in a homicide. The group led officers on a short police chase that ended when the car crashed into a vehicle containing a local teacher and several students.

This is not the first chase that the two men have sparked because of their alleged criminal activity. In fact, the two defendants were nearly apprehended in February 2013 after officers observed them making several drug deals. Those defendants apparently fled the scene of that encounter, and officers chose not to pursue them because of safety issues.

The men are charged with conspiracy to deliver or manufacturing heroin, along with additional counts of delivery or manufacturing fewer than 50 grams of the drug. One of the men is also accused of eluding a police officer. The men could spend decades in prison because of the felony accusations.

These defendants reportedly have a prior record that may influence the outcome of their pending criminal proceedings. Criminal defendants who are facing drug charges for drug possession or manufacturing may benefit from consulting a Michigan attorney after they are arrested. Defense lawyers may provide additional information about the impact of a prior record upon the potential outcome of a criminal trial or hearing.
