Former Michigan basketball star suspected of drinking and driving

Whether you live in Michigan or elsewhere, people make mistakes. However, those mistakes can sometimes land a person in trouble with the law. That was the case for one former Michigan basketball star.

According to reports, the former Western Michigan University basketball player was found in her car at a McDonald's drive thru around 3 a.m. The woman appeared to be asleep. Police arrested the woman for allegedly drinking and driving. Police say she had a blood-alcohol level of .155. She was released from police custody the same day she was arrested.

The woman involved in the incident is currently coaching for Creighton University. During the 2007 season at Western Michigan she led the country in scoring. She still holds the schools record for scoring 2,224 points.

Although it is unclear how this specific case will turn out, it shows that even some of the most successful people can make mistakes. Despite a person's mistakes, what they do moving forward is extremely important. Even before charges are filed a person would be wise to consult with an experienced attorney.

Those that have been arrested should be aware of their rights. Law enforcement has certain procedures they must follow. If it is found that police strayed from those, it may be determined that an individual's rights were violated.

While media reports typically imply guilt, people must remember that a person who has been charged with a crime remains innocent unless proven guilty. With the right help, a person can fight the charges and work towards a positive outcome.
